High energy content , but without forgetting that it is not a carbohydrate drink, it is a hydration drink, so we reduced the carbohydrate content from 67.5g in GLUT 5 DRINK with 9% to 45g of carbohydrates and 6%, with the aim of making ISO DRINK the most effective isotonic drink on the market.
We want to achieve different goals depending on each athlete's nutritional strategy.
GLUT 5 DRINK delivers the highest energy per ml, allowing athletes to consume 67.5 grams of carbohydrates per hour with a single bottle. This is achieved without dehydration, as the concentration remains strictly at 9% per bottle.
ISO DRINK achieves the fastest hydration rate , but with a high carbohydrate content: 45 grams per 750ml bottle. Maintaining a 6% concentration , which has been shown to be almost identical to water, it hydrates much faster and provides better hydration control.
Both are ideal, but it will depend on the athlete and the planned strategy to use one product or the other.
What is the maximum concentration of carbohydrates we can assimilate?
One of the main goals of oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and sports drinks is to make fluids available for use within the body as quickly as possible. Drinks designed for use as ORS and sports nutrition contain a mixture of carbohydrates and electrolytes, with sodium being the primary electrolyte.
The carbohydrates in ORS ( carbohydrate drinks ) come primarily in the form of glucose, although they may also contain sucrose, maltodextrin, or fructose. Increasing the amount of carbohydrates in an ingested beverage leads to a decrease in fluid transport.
The increase in osmolality due to high carbohydrate concentrations leads to a net movement of water into the intestinal lumen, causing a loss in body water reserves and potentially increasing the effects of dehydration.
Previously, it has been shown that solutions with electrolytes and 6% CHO lead to greater fluid transport than a 15% glucose solution, but there was no demonstrated difference in fluid transport when glucose and fructose solutions of 6, 8, and 9% were compared.
On the other hand, the most recent research has suggested that adding sodium to ingested beverages will lead to an increase in fluid transport and a reduction in plasma volume change during exercise, indicating greater fluid availability and a greater energy supply.
