In other words, if you run 21 kilometers and take the gel at kilometer 17, it would allow you to reach the finish line with energy and ensure a good recovery. However, you could also take it 15 minutes before the start of the race to get an extra boost at the beginning, or at kilometer 8-9 to reach the halfway point with maximum confidence.
